GOLLY, I HAD NO IDEA THERE WERE SO MANY POSTINGS HERE! ANYWHO.
OWENSBORO TO ME IS STILL THE MOST BORING TOWN EVER. ALTHOUGH I AM SURE THAT THERE ARE PLACES IN THE UNITED STATES THAT ARE MUCH MUCH WORSE. OWENSBORO HAS AND IS GROWN/GROWING PRETTY FAST THESE DAYS. A BIG BEAUTIFUL NEW WAL-MART OPENED MAY 25, AND OLIVE GARDEN OPENED MAY 23RD AT LONG LAST. OTHER BUSINESSES HAVE PLANS TO OPEN HERE. NOW IF WE COULD JUST GET AN OLD NAVY, I MIGHT BE SATISFIED.
IF YOU ARE AN OWENSBOROAN, WHAT BUSINESSES/CHAINS/STORES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE COME TO OWENSBORO??????
This is going to sound stupid, but damnit. I want a PetsMart!
I agree with the PetSmart thing, but WE ARE GETTING A STARBUCKS!!
I heard that they were finally building one.
I also think we should get a Suncoast Ent. store

I was born in this town and hate it starting from teenage years forward. I moved near Orlando Florida when I was 20 years old to get away from Owensboredome. I was so determined to never come back to Owensboro that I went with no advanced plans and made it. I stayed in a hotel for a couple nights and slept in my car for a couple until I found a mobile home to rent for $250 per month. A few months later was able to purchase another mobile home down in the same neighborhood for $250 per month. Great community. It is partly 55+, but has an outdoor heated pool, hot tub, and is on a lake. The point of this story is that the only thing that Owensboro had going for it is most of my family lives there and that doesn't mean much for a mature and independent adult. That is what holidays, the phone, and email is for! When I come back to Owensboro now and then to visit family I see that very little has changed. It has been almost 11 years since I moved away from Owensboring in 1999 and still no one has made it exciting! It has more restaurants, stores, neighborhoods, and businesses, but what is there that stands out? Still the same! You asked what would I like to see come to Owensboro? The list is long: A huge dance club that has several different themes, d.j.s, levels, rooms, and is completely non-smoking like in Cali! Completely non-smoking restaurants and businesses via city or state ordinance(no exceptions!). People who say this will hurt their business don't know what they are talking about. Do people in California go to KY to go to a bar and/or restaurant just to be able to smoke in it? People will learn to accept it and history shows they will! It has been done in other states and people just go outside and away from entrances! Moving on... A 24-7 recreation center. A place that people who are out all night potentially doing bad things can go and do better things. Like a basketball gymnasium and other things inside this building. It is air conditioned for the summer and heated for the winter. It offers a place to go instead of being on the streets dealing or doing doing drugs or any other negative things that are done out of lack of things to do! I heared there was a skateboarding park/area made and then I found out that it had limited time on it! What's the point!? It is like giving you a dinner buffet and saying you have 5 seconds to eat from it before you are forced to leave! That is a failed attempt to improve the community! I know that the insurance, liability, and workforce issues would be a concern for such community recreation centers to exist, but it should be in the budget rather than taking down the Executive Inn and making a scenic river front that still has NO Six Flags roller coaster park and dance clubs of epic proportions! Like a quote from the movie "Field of Dreams," "If you build it they will come!" If financial revenue is an issue then make something that people will flock to and then money will follow! What they are doing downtown is making pretty landscaping, sidewalks, and fountains on the river front, but other than taking a walk like you would at a park what is there that tempt people to use the new river front project and spend money? A couple bars? There is a difference between a bar and a dance club! A bar is everywhere and most just get drunk, but a dance club offers that plus more. I went to one called wild hare saloon. It had a dance area of the kitchen in my house and people standing around drinking! Boring! To each there own, but that is NOT good enough! Ever been to Club LaVela in Panama City Beach, FL? It is huge, has 21 rooms, several djs, several different themes, and levels! Just make that NON-Smoking and in Owensboro I would go to it! What else? A teen club! I know there has been some over the years, but they close down! There is a new one on Carter Road where Foodland used to be. It probably won't last, but it would be nice if it would! I often wonder if I could do something about the way Owensboro is run, but who hires someone with no college degree to run the city? It don't take a genius to do better in making Owensboro become something big! It just takes thinking outside the box. If you build it they will come!

Re: Owensboring is....Well....BORING!
I agree. Owensboro is the most boring place I have lived. I know there are worse places, but for a place that is growing so much yet offering nothing exciting it is pathetic! I lived there, too, but also moved away and only will visit family there. I will never live there! All good ideas! I would like to see the so called mall be twice as big or more. Some good italian restaurants like Johnny Carino's, Carrabas, or something like that. Boca Da Bepo would be nice. I would like to eat a these places when I visit family occasionally. I IHOP! There are so many other things besides restaurants that Owensboro needs. Perhaps a paintball course that doesn't close down after a year. There was one! Big time concerts often. Make it where all the celebs come here! Not occasional visits, but that this place is actually on the radar! I never see Owensboro being anything because the same decisions are being made over and over and over by the same thinking of people who run it! Downtown project is a waste of time and money. Money should be spent on making better entertainment and recreation rather than a pretty scenic riverfront! Like you said, "What will people do besides walk around?" Already have bars and antique shops! That is a failure! Is a a mega mall going to be there, roller coasters, and many things that people 1,000 miles or more away will come for? The BBQ festival isn't cutting it. I have traveled the country and met several hundred thousands of people in my career. Only a few people have heard of Owensboro? What does that tell you when it comes to Kentucky cities! They have heard of Louisville and Lexington, etc!
